Dentistry |
| |
Dentistry usually encompasses a number of very important practices related to the oral cavity. The most common treatments involve the dental surgery on the teeth as a treatment for dental caries. Decayed teeth can be filled with dental amalgam, dental composite, dental porcelain and precious or non-precious metals. Oral and maxillofacial surgery is a more specialized form of dental surgery. Dentists can prescribe medication, x-rays, and devices for home or in-office use. Many oral diseases (such as bilateral odontogenic keratocysts) and abnormalities (such as several unerupted teeth) can indicate systemic, neural, or other diseases.
Prevention
Dentists also encourage prevention of dental cavities through proper hygiene (tooth brushing and flossing), fluoride, and tooth polishing. Recognized but less conventional preventive agents include xylitol, which is bacteriostatic, casein derivatives, and proprietary products such as Cavistat Basic Mint.
Tooth Bonding
Dental bonding is a special resin composite that adheres to your teeth and becomes as hard as your own enamel. Bonding can solve many cosmetic problems at an affordable price. A tooth that is stained, gapped, chipped or mis-aligned can be bonded to give you a reshaped smile, usually in one office visit. |

The color of the bonding material must match your other teeth so that it appears natural. This may require getting your other teeth to a pleasing color first through bleaching or other services.
Tooth Bonding is not a permanent solution. Depending on your oral habits it can last up to 10 years or more, before requiring a new treatment.
Porcelain Veneers
This represents the state of the art in cosmetic dentistry today. Porcelain veneers are handcrafted to create beautiful porcelain covering for individual teeth. They are as strong as your own natural teeth and can be a permanent solution to most cosmetic dental problems. They will not discolor over time and resist chipping or fracture. Porcelain veneers will successfully treat gaps, chips, excessively small or large teeth, discolored or "antibiotic" stained teeth, or even straighten misaligned or crooked teeth in as little as 2 visits.
Dental Implants
Dental implants are designed to replace natural teeth that have been lost from trauma or disease. Because the implant is fixed firmly to the bone, implants offer superior strength and durability. Better yet, dental implants look and function just like natural teeth. They can also be used to support a single crown or as anchors for fixed bridges.
What is a dental implant?
A dental implant is an artificial tooth root (synthetic material) that is surgically anchored into your jaw to hold a replacement tooth or bridge in place.
The benefit of using dental implants:
Dental implants don't rely on neighboring teeth for support
Dental implants are permanent and stable > Because the implant is secured within the jawbone, the replacement teeth look, feel, and function just like your own natural teeth.
Improved appearance. Dental implants look and feel like your own teeth. And because they are designed to fuse with the bone, they become permanent.
Improved oral health. Dental implants don't require reducing other teeth, as a tooth-supported bridge does. Because nearby teeth are not altered to support the implant, more of your own teeth are left intact, improving your long-term oral health. Individual implants also allow easier access between teeth, improving oral hygiene.
Durability. Dental Implants are very durable and will last many years. They require the same care as real teeth, including brushing, flossing, and regular dental check-ups. With good care, many implants last a lifetime.
Implant material is made from different types of metallic and bone-like ceramic materials that are compatible with body tissue.
Development of an individualized dental treatment plan:
The plan addresses your specific needs and provides coordinated care based on the implant option that is best for you.
Than tooth root implant, which is a small post made of titanium, is placed into the bone socket of the missing tooth.
As the jawbone heals, it grows around the implanted metal post, anchoring it securely in the jaw. The healing process can take from 6 to 12 weeks.
When the implant has bonded to the jawbone, a small connector post - called an abutment - is attached to the post to securely hold the new tooth. To make your new tooth or teeth, your dentist makes impressions of your teeth, and creates a model of your bite. Your new tooth or teeth are based on this model. It will match the color of your natural teeth.
A replacement tooth, called a crown, is then attached to the abutment.
Periodontal Laser Surgery
Periodontal Disease
Periodontal (gum) diseases, including gingivitis and periodontitis, are serious infections that, left untreated, can lead to tooth loss. The word periodontal literally means "around the tooth." Periodontal disease is a chronic bacterial infection that affects the gums and bone supporting the teeth.
Periodontal disease can affect one tooth or many teeth. It begins when the bacteria in plaque (the sticky, colorless film that constantly forms on your teeth) causes the gums to become inflamed.
